Review of Wild Target (2010) by Richard T — 17 Jul 2010
I haven't laughed so much at a movie in a long time as I did while watching Wild Target.
It's an hilarious film with amazingly well defined characters. Both Nighy and Blunt excel in their roles, and Grint is a welcome addition to the mix, though sadly his character has slightly less opportunity to explore his character.
Gregor Fisher also adds a great deal to the movie with his fantastic bumbling sidekick turn.
The plot isn't exactly straightforward, which is fitting with the tone of the film, but moves along with its twists and turns at a decent rate. The dialogue is snappy enough to be engaging, and there are plenty of laughs along the way.
However, its the characters that have the greatest appeal to me. Blunt's character reminding me very much of the person I was sitting in the cinema with (apart from the kleptomaniac tendencies).
Nighy delivers a subtle and measured performance as a disconnected and lonely assassin slowly falling in love - it's a nuanced depiction which is outstanding in his body of work - in which he doesn't seem the same as he seems to in all his other performances.
Oh and Martin Freeman's teeth in this film are hilarious!
