Review of Wild Target (1993) by Melissa J — 27 Sep 2010
A fairly funny dark comedy that leans a little to the farcical side, which it should have avoided. Bill Nighy is his usual quirky british gentleman and works well with the charisma of Emily Blunt as the odd couple. Rupert Grint and the rest of the cast also put in decent enough performances.
The real issue is the script which changes between subtle clever humour to clunky tumbleweed rolling jokes. It comes across that the actors even seem to realise this as there are occaisionally small disjointed pauses in the dialogue. The music to the film is also pretty bad at times though does add to the character of the film in some scenes.
There are some clever visual touches and the direction of scenes is done pretty well. Its just a bit of a shame about the scripting and music. Overall it is pretty funny and worth a look just for the performances of the two leads, but with a bit more polish to the script and a finer sense of style in the general production it could have been a great British comedy.
