Review of Wild Target (1993) by Lee B — 09 Aug 2011
This is a rather whimsical movie with nothing too important to say for it. And that is some of the charm for this movie. It's quirky characters that are moving through odd scenarios. It does seem to mash it all together, but it is just funny enough and has enough involved action that you don't get bored. My problem, I'll get to later. Ron Weasley is very good. Nighy is always surprisingly good with Weasley, but he is good overall in just about everything. And I'm a big fan of Freeman, even in small roles like this one.
It's Blunt that bothers me. I've never been impressed by her. She does show a bit of good comic timing, but she is, essentially, the main character. I didn't connect with her at all and actually found her to be the annoyance. In a movie like the Swingers sequel-ish movie (I forget the name), Vaughn is supposed to be annoying and that was the point. In this movie, I am not sure this was supposed to be the point of the movie. She doesn't connect well with others here. She is rogue. Maybe that was the point, but if so, then the movie suffered in my mind - maybe not in yours. But give it a spin. I don't think this is necessary to skip if you are interested.
