Review of Wild Target (1993) by Chris B — 09 Jan 2012
I like a good farce, see the classic episodes of 'Frasier' for good examples. This film is based on a French farce but is played out as yet another tedious Brit rom-com. Certain things seem to have translated over badly such as Blunt's character asking men how much they weigh before sleeping with them (which is never explained) and Nighy's character learning French from audio book (which is never explained either).
I found none of the characters sympathetic or even likeable. The film's light-hearted treatment of killing and theft left a bad taste in my mouth, where a film that also treats killing in a comedic way, 'Four Lions' did not.
Why this is so would take a lot more space than is available to explain. It was a shame that Nighy didn't have any better material to work with as he is a good actor. But he's far too old to play Emily Blunt's love interest!
