Review of Wild Tales (2014) by Sebastian O — 22 Feb 2015
A hilarious anthology film, it's crazy how much character development is achieved in such a short amount of time. Honestly, every one of the short films could be explored in a Film Studies course, where it's likely all they'd make are short films.
While the order wasn't great (the last two shorts were probably my least favourite), and it ran a bit long (the final short was 30 minutes), and 2 hours is a lot of time to dedicate to unrelated shorts, the director really did pull it off, with some excellent cinematography and performances.
While the best foreign films often find themselves remade for American audiences, this film is much too smart and quirky to be replicated. Nevertheless, perhaps because of how good this film is, I wouldn't be surprised to see more anthology films being produced in the United States.
