Review of Wild Tales (2014) by Diganta B — 04 Jun 2015
An aptly named dark romp that, as much as anything else, serves as an excuse to get a series of vignettes that couldn't sustain a feature onto the big screen. If there's a flaw it comes at the end, after a series of unrelated stories following a central theme of the power struggle between the haves and the have-nots (and not always monetarily) the final story largely abandons it in favour of a battle-of-the-sexes motif; it stands well on its own terms, but feels slightly unfulfilling as a conclusion.
Still, this is a case where 'questionably ended' underscores the quality of what comes before. The bleak yet undeniably funny tone brings to mind a less whimsical Tim Burton - in a damn good way.
