Review of Wild Style (1982) by Jeff G — 06 Dec 2008
No real plot or storyline. Except at a base level it is more a time capsule of the early 80â??s Bronx. It totally immerses you in the time and culture. It setâ??s the mood.
The acting is horrible yet naturalistic. But itâ??s better that way as getting well known actors some how would have messed up the purity of the film and distracted form the atmosphere.
The real treat is to watch rap battles and break dancing scenes. When hip hop was more community based and peaceful not about materialistic things as much as it is now.
It has plenty of energy. There are plenty of memorable scenes. There is a quirky scene where it looks like two characters are going to get robbed or killed but are saved by Fab 5 Freddy who letâ??s them know he is with them and they not only lower there guns but apologize like it was something minor. Like if they had accidentally spilled a drink.
I can see why the film is so beloved to see a renaissance moment is such an amazing thing to see and admire. Though it is thought of as more of a cult film, It is a classic nonetheless in meaning.
Itâ??s sad that Sandra Fabara who plays the female lead lady bug, never appeared in another film she is both cute and has a charm about her.
