Review of Wild Strawberries (2012) by Ian M — 27 Nov 2009
I fell in love with the matter of this film: a resentful old man who has been awarded for his medical achievements, goes on a roadtrip and stumbles upon a field of wild strawberries where he used to spend his summer vacations.
Throughout hallucinations of death and reflections upon his former self, he realises the emptiness of his existence and claims the faults he has created within himself and relationships with others. However, the outcome is not what it could have been.
A bit silly at times and occasionally cheesy, the excellent cinematography, the haunting storyline and the brilliant metaphors unfortunately do not weigh up to its flaws. Nonetheless I enjoyed it tremendously and found it an admiring work of art by an amazing director.
