Review of Wild Strawberries (2012) by Justin M — 31 Jul 2012
Bergman continues to impress me. Wild Strawberries is the story of a man who gets to the end of his life and realizes that he's not the man who he wanted to be and that it cost him the great loves of his life.
Bergman is able to speak to the human condition in a way that is both naturalistic, poignant, and dramatic. Some of the scenes in this film are just so beautiful that they warrant being hung in a museum.
The true testament to Bergman's power as a filmmaker is that although I am very young in my life, I was still significantly moved with the story of this old man attempting to reconnect with his soul.
There's no other way to describe this film to someone who hasn't seen it so all I can say is that this gets my highest recommendation and I hope to continue working my way through Bergman's filmography in the near future.
