Lynch's use of references of the pop culture such as the popular fantasy film Wizard of Oz and the Elvis Presley's films fits well in the environment of Wild at Heart. It even softly calms down a few tense situations, due to an spoof feeling on it.

The abundant use of the 'hot' colors in this film, to portray a 'wild' atmosphere, are masterfully used as well. The plot it's everything but clever though. This is somewhat obvious, because we're talking about David Lynch, whose content of his films are always expected to be very obscure.

But if it helps, Lynch himself said that the film's main intention is to show 'how to love in the hell'. I really think he did the mission very well then. So, in a short resume, Wild at Heart is a film full of pointless dialogs, pop references, sex and violence, all mixed with a stunning cinematography.

If you are planing to watch it, I highly recommend you to do so.
