Review of Wild at Heart (1990) by Trevor C — 08 May 2010
Many people absolutely hate this movie for its graphic violence, sexual themes, and bizarre choices in editing and plot - Ebert even ranted about the opening scene being both extremely violent and racist (the violent part is true, but 'racist' is debatable). frankly this is a love it or hate it movie, and I simply loved the style - from the random characters with weird quirks to the hardcore music that plays at the most unexpected occasions. its actually probably one of Lynch's best, because he proves that he isn't stuck to just one style (compare Eraserhead, Elephant Man, Blue Velvet, and Muholland Drive to this and you get entirely different styled films).
Most also don't believe this deserved the Palme d'Or, but I thought it was so original and creative that it makes sense why it won the award.
