Review of Wild (2014) by Dean D — 10 Jun 2015
This movie focuses on a woman that decides to hike the Pacific Trail, a 600 miles long hike through desert and forests. Great acting by Reese Witherspoon, but other than that, it felt as if this movie lacked quite a bit.
The main character was uninspirational and unprepared, emotionally damaged; her reasons for doing the hike are still quite a mystery to me. The movie focuses a lot on the aspect of a woman hiking on her own, and the possible dangers that this can involve, especially when interactions with men occur.
This means that every encounter with a man in this movie is one where the first question you ask yourself is "is he going to rape her?". A stronger and more inspirational main character would've helped a lot.
I also felt like the cinematography was lacking; where are all the beautiful shots of the nature? These problems, as well as random flashbacks and a mediocre soundtrack all lead up to 3/5 stars. A decent movie that does entertain throughout, but had much more potential.
