If I hadn't read the book (which was excellent!), I would have likely found the rapid-fire flashback sequences confusing. The best part of the DVD was the bonus features showing the real Cheryl Strayed (and her family) involved in the filmmaking process - seeing where her life's path has led her since she embarked on her solo trek up the Pacific Coast Trail.
