Review of Wild (2014) by Judy N — 31 Jan 2015
I was interested in seeing this because I wanted to see as many Oscar nominated films as I can before the Oscars aired on February 22 and I got to be honest and say I thought this was just an alright film and a little overrated in my opinion.
I will start off with the positives and say that Reese Witherspoon did a great job in the movie. She put on a good physical transformation and in my opinion she played the real life person her character is based off of well.
Laura Dern played a good supporting character and the drama with her character was well handled. As the film went on, you get learn more about Reese Witherspoon's character and you get to care a bit more for her as well.
Besides the positives I have of the film, I thought this was just a by-the-numbers drama that felt more like Oscar bait. I thought the film got slow at times and I know this a character driven movie, but I just found dialogue scenes to be forgettable and not mean much.
There were good dialogue scenes that were well acted, but I just thought there were scenes that kind of put the story to a halt. The story was interesting, but the way the film was directed was just a by-the-numbers approach and there was nothing about it that will make me want to watch it again or remember it years from now.
Overall, it is a movie worth seeing for Reese Witherspoon and the story, but by the end, this was just a drama that I would have enjoyed more if it had a more emotional punch to it like the other movies that have Oscar nominations.
