Review of Wild (2014) by Ross H — 02 Feb 2015
A journey of self discovery in a time of crisis - we follow Cheryl Strayed on her 1000 kilometre hike from the Mexican border to Canada.
Jean Marc-Vallé avoids the pretentious, shallow feel found in other "finding yourself" movies such as Eat, Pray, Love. The protagonist not constantly moaning and pitying herself because of her hardships (E.P.L is a whole other story trust me my god). She proves relatable and charming in her coarseness.
It won't change your life, it won't persuade you to go out and walk halfway across the continent (the polar opposite in my case), but it will provide you with an enjoyable viewing experience, achieved by fascinating locations and accomplished acting on Witherspoon's part.
