I haven't read the book - a first for me, so I am not sure how this movie compares. But I think it would be fair to say it holds its own. This is a powerful story of transformation - someone reclaiming her dignity through punishing and exhausting physical exercise.
Reese Witherspoon is perfect, not trying to sugarcoat the less pleasant facets of the character's personality.
