Review of Widows (2018) by Dj I — 11 Dec 2018
Frederick the Great said "He who tries to defend everything, defends nothing." That is what this movie is....a movie trying to tell everything but ends up telling nothing. It is a shame too because the plot has strengths including a nice mixture of street, politics, and relationships.
But it gets squandered by McQueen's insistence on jamming political hot button stereotypes into the film which is not only a waste of time but doesnt add anything to film whatsoever. There is just so much wasted time and content in this film forcing the audience down meaningless paths that supposedly were attempts, and failures, at character development.
There are also some major logic and reality gaps in the conclusion that just insult your intelligence. This film starts out smart but in a self inflicted comedy of errors ends up widowed too. Its a shame.
