Review of Wicker Park (2004) by Ka M — 16 May 2010
Came out in a time when we had got used to Tarantino and Memento-type story-telling techniques so, (for those not interested in the foreign film original), Wicker Park was easier to digest than Memento and all the better for the bouncing back and forth plot.
The film captures emotional angst and broken hearts very well. A couple of the chararcters do illogic things in the interest of love and perfectly display the psyche that gives more power to those who equate love with a mental illness - some of these people are not healthy.
Despite the cold telling of the story there is a warmth throughout the film and a happy enough ending to leave the watcher hopeful in their own lives, but for me, the best girl lost! If you like love stories, this is a good one. However, it's not a mindless romantic comedy, you have to be sober and engaged throughout to follow this baby.
