Review of Wicker Park (2004) by Brendan P — 11 Apr 2009
A rapidly absorbing tale with two very compelling characters. The female lead played by Rose Byrne had me totally enraptured, she plays such a perfect sympathetic obsessive character that I became very emotionally connected to her and her fate.
Josh Harnett continues to impress me with his confident and varied work, and director Paul McGuigan shows again his always original visual style. Although his vision isn't always conducive to the overall impression the film hopes to give, and at times the screenplay paces itself poor by getting mired in an unnecessarily convoluted plot structure, I really was quite infatuated with this picture.
Looking forward to tracking down the original French version.
