Review of Wicker Park (2004) by Carlos A — 01 Nov 2009
Have you ever loved at first sight?, Have you ever loved someone who is in love with someone else?.. Wicker Park (Obsesión/El Apartamento in Spanish) tells a story about Matthew (Harnett) a photographer who suddenly thinks he came across his former girlfriend Lisa (Kruger) and begins to search for her as he still doesn't know why she dissapeared without a notice until he gets involved in a intriguing story involving lies, jealousy and love.
This romanthic drama/thriller is very well put together as it takes us back and forth to unveil the different stories of each one of the characters, and it does get the job done when it comes to do a lot with very few situations wich, when re-viewed... give you that "ooooohhh.." effect wich is good as the story reveals itself.
The Characters are maybe not Award woth... but they are just as well as the acting and the casting fit the movie just fine, the musical score has some high points here and there and the edition work is pretty good. Once again, if you have ever expirienced the kind of love that makes you do stupid, romantic, stalkerish (and even selfish) things.. then it'd be easy to understand the motivations of the characters.. maybe the problem would be that relys a little bit too much on the sympathy towards the characters when the main perk of the film is in the story and the non-linear pace.
At the end I enjoyed a lot the film and I would tottally reccomend it, speccially given the fact that somehow this 2004 film went unnoticed for the most part...
Give it a rent, stick on the couch (loved one optional) and drink a hot chocolate... best seen with sugar.
