Review of Why We Fight (2005) by Scotty K — 10 Feb 2009
This is a film every American should see. It is a clear-headed, non political, well-researched investigation into how the military industrial complex has taken over the commerce and foreign policy of the US over the past 50 years. Starting with the warnings of President Eisenhower on his last day in office, up through the disaster of Iraq, we see how the machinations of the arms industry and the business moguls and politicians who support if have manipulated all aspects of society to make us a nation who is always at war somewhere in the world, leading to our entire economy being indebted and ingrained with warfare.
The film doesn't point fingers or assign blame to any one party or leader, all are responsible. It is a broken and twisted system that has taken over behind the scenes. This is not the country the founders set up when they wrote the constitution, yet here we are. And with no clear reason for why we're here, except that a small handful of corporate leaders and Washington beauracrats have gotten rich in the process.
How the American Democracy became the American Empire. It's chilling, eye-opening, and maddening.
