Review of Why Him? (2016) by Nick B — 06 Jan 2017
So as a dad I live to wonder just who my daughter will marry, and yes he better not be a total jerk. So the premise of the movie Why Him is one where I can relate. There are some laughs in this thing. Dave Franco pulls off the lead character of said man do I want my daughter to marry this dude? Bryan Cranston, who seems to be in everything these days, is the dad and he isn't bad either.
I mean the whole story isn't too believable. I'd like to see a film try to tackle the situation where a girl has no business with a guy and he has zero money. I mean doesn't that happen all the time? Megan Mullally may steal the movie, and may also help you answer, oh yeah she is still around.
There are a few pretty crude spots, so be aware, and the fore-shadowing is so obvious the director basically hits you over the head with 'pay attention as this will be important later.' Anyway, good for a few matinee chuckles, but beyond that, it's a rental.
