Review of Why Him? (2016) by Anthony K — 25 Mar 2017
This film is just tragic. It wastes a great cast on incredibly bland material, and a generic, lifeless final product. Even worse is that Bryan Cranston is made *extremely* unlikable as a result of his bullying behavior, boring character arc, and narc-like demeanor. That I would consider unforgivable; just think about how much good will this man has built up over the course of his career!
Weird note: there's shockingly little music in this movie, even at times where the humor is OTT slapstick. It creates this weirdly dull feeling in what should otherwise be an energetic scene (most notably, the scene where Gustav attacks Laird while Bryan Cranston watches on, eating Pop Tarts). Just bad. The two stars are really strictly for James Franco and Adam Devine.
