Review of Why Did I Get Married Too? (2010) by Lilliañ F — 30 Dec 2010
I'm simply not a Tyler Perry fan but I was surprised at how much he improved with this film compared to the first one. While Perry needs to work on balancing out creating comedic moments and creating caricatures he did a much better job with honing in the Angela and Marcus characters.
Perry tends to go for over the top and Janet Jackson is no expectation to that rule. Her performance and breakdown borders on the ridiculous however she was able to prevent a laugh out loud moment by honing in Perry script and going for less dramatics.
The script while much fleshed out then the last did rely on copying its storylines from other movies, Simply a no-no in the originality rules. Perry definitely losses points there. This was simply disappointing.
While there were some over the top moments, I did appreciate a few surprises, especially at the end and the acting skills of Jill Scott who is one person who breezes through the character with a gentle and much needed ease, providing calmness and sanity to Perry's uneven script.
Now all I can hope for is there not being another sequel.
