Review of Why Did I Get Married Too? (2010) by Jake H — 05 May 2010
Tyler Perry is such a big name now it actually seems like he has been around forever and is just a popular Oprah Winfrey endorsed screenwriter/actor guy or as his famously known character "Madea"; turns out he only hit the big time a little over four years ago. Turning out eight (not including this film) films, that he all wrote, and directed seven of them, involved him having two films a year; along with having two different television shows. And even though only 7 of them had negative reviews and the other one (his latest) barely got passed with an almost positive rating; he still has managed to be a box office success.
Advertising back in late 2009, that Tyler Perry would have his first sequel ever in succession to the 2007 film, "Why Did I get Married" which brought popular marriage problems to a movie and had a group of people work them out. It is kind of a repetitive theme for Perry films, popular problems, some sort of a guilty pressure revenge character, Madea causing some type of riot and then the end where a drug addict bursts into a musical number topping off a perfect time at the movies.
The four couples from the first film gather together in their year-annual trip in the Bahamas, as they catch up and have a good time, but when Shelia's ex-husband Mike comes to attempt to ruin her remarriage with Troy and win her back. With this happening the three other couples erupt and begin to have more problems than they had seemed. So now everything going all chaotic and such, the famously advertised with the preview "One couple will not make it".
So the question is, was this supposed to be like a dark horror ending with a psycho killer arising? To be honest, I was actually sort of expecting that, but instead it didn't go that way. It follows the same way a Tyler Perry film goes, minus a drug addict bursting into a musical number in the end, which was the only reason I wanted to see this anyway. Down to the basics though, the script lacks what it did in the first film, and that was depth and ties off a climax very quickly. Along with the film being shot very poorly, the ninth Perry film is going to well in the box office but doesn't have much to offer then the last one.
I give it a.
