Review of Why Did I Get Married? (2007) by Universal W — 15 Oct 2007
I was not surprised when Tyler Perry's "Why Did I Get Married" made it to the number one slot for opening weekend. Despite the critic's reviews Tyler Perry knows his audience and has definitely honed his craft. I was a definite fan of Madea's Family Reunion, but with the release of "Married" I'd say this is Tyler's best film to date.
Tyler's movies touch every emotion. You can go from laughing until your stomach hurts to crying your eyes out. The cast of this movie was phenomenal. Janet Jackson was strong and believable as Patricia, the psychologist, lecturer and top selling author. I was uncertain at first about the chemistry between Janet and Malik Yoba (New York Undercover) who played her husband Gavin, but Malik's senstivity in the kitchen scene made it work for me.
The phenomenal songstress Jill Scott was amazing as Sheila, the underweight and low self-esteem.
