Review of Why Did I Get Married? (2007) by Melanie W — 05 Apr 2008
I'm a fan of Tyler Perry and productions like this one are exactly why. This man is not afraid to lay it out & he knows how to connect with an audience and dispense the humor like no one else. Repeatedly his plays reach me on many levels. Personally I find them to be better than the screen version. Recently I saw the screen version of this one starring Janet Jackson. It had many similarities but could have easily stood on its own as it's own story.
Cheryl Pepsii Riley did such an awesome job it makes me love the play more than the big screen version. I have to say I LOVED the character of Poppy played by LaVan Davis - That is one funny dude. He knows his comic timing. It's a great play with some really good messages that anyone can relate to and the singing is next to awesome. Even if you have seen the movie - watch the play. If you haven't, watch both but see this one 1st. It's great!
