Review of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966) by Tora C — 23 Jan 2008
Who's afraid of living without false illusions? What if living within the gray area between fantasy and reality was the only thing sustaining and feeding your dysfunctional relationship? What if you could spend the night in someone else's shoes only to realize that their shortcomings mirror your own and possibly predict your own fate? In a visceral, disturbing way, the tale of George, Martha, Nick, & Honey turn the ideas or illusions of the perfect family unit aspired to in the 1950s on it's ugly head.
The acting is superb for its open, unflattering honesty and for its brutal viciousness. Be prepared to be uncomfortable, but also be prepared to be amazed.
