Review of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966) by Ben W — 12 Jul 2010
Absolutely hypnotic. the richness and terrible power of these characters is overwhelming. they yell and scream at one another, try desperately to inflict wounds on one another at any point and in any way they can.
at the time, albees play was the epitome of shock value play writing. it is less shocking now, at least in its particular plot points, but just as powerful as it ever was in terms of its strength of script.
obviously, all four actors are at the tops of their respective games, and its a marvelous directorial film debut for mike nichols. this film has earned its reputation.
