Review of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966) by Mloy X — 14 Sep 2013
George (Burton): All I said was that our son, the apple of our three eyes, Martha being a cyclops.....
Wow and damn. Taylor and Burton's chemistry was just so powerful and undeniably explosive, they were absolutely dynamite together. This was a wild, fanatic ride of emotional highs and lows that watching the film left me bewildered and breathless. What's more amazing is that there were no high tech bells or whistles: nothing CG-ed, no incredible pyrotechnics or any special effects of any sort, no scenic or exotic locale, no death-defying stunts-- just four ubber talented actors, all assembled in a drab, unimpressive house under some pretty ordinary circumstances. The energy and the vigor of the ensembles' performance was absolutely stupendous, yet exhausting but made the movie so thoroughly engaging that it was difficult not to get completely enthralled. And just when you think there can't possibly be anything else left unsaid, no more surprises left to be revealed; then, they throw just another little morsel of information just before the end of the film that just takes you for another loop and realize "Holy cow!"....the depth of this film is absolutely incredible and these seemingly simple characters are actually quite complex. Wow..... mind, blown.
