Review of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966) by Steve R — 22 Jan 2010
Perfect. Not only is it Mike Nichols' greatest film, it's one of my all-time favorites, with four performances that belong each on the all time top 100 acting performances ever. As filmed plays go, it's one of the very few that manage, thanks to Nochols' directorial work, to maintain the special theatrical dynamic of a staged play, and yet use the cinematic art to its fullest potential.
Dark, haunting, depressing, incredibly powerful, it belongs on every film-buff's shelf with the most select of classics.
