Review of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966) by Barry N — 16 Mar 2011
This film was surprising. I mean really, really surprising. This movie actually makes fighting, drinking and more fighting interesting for 2 hours. The brutality of the verbal abuse is actually undaunting, and shocking.
This film is very well put together, well acted and well written. But that's where the film's first problem lies. None of the characters are very sympathetic. It left me emotionally detached from the characters sometimes.
The film also did drag in a couple of places. Those are some flaws, but the ending is absolutely brilliant. It also shocked me and took the wind out of me. It's not necessarily the genuis masterpiece people make it out to be, but it is a great film.
