Review of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966) by Anthony B — 29 May 2011
As the trailer says, the only thing you can say about 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?' after mentioning Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, George Segal and Sandy Dennis is, incredible. Richard Burton plays an associate history professor and Elizabeth plays his wife, who is also the daughter of the college president.
One night, they invite a new instructor (Segal) and his wife (Dennis) to dinner. There, years of drinking and marriage and a secret used to kept that marriage together erupt to the surface. The acting, dialouge, direction and everything else combine to form a film that is so great that it almost feels like a guilty pleasure.
It leaves you thinking and wanting more, creating one of the best movies of all time.
