Review of Whiteout (2009) by Kelcy K — 12 Mar 2010
While the movie isn't as bad as you've been led to believe, it is still implausible beyond belief and impossible to boot. We've seen this story countless times before but just never in the middle of winter on an American/New Zealand base located on the South Pole in the middle of a whiteout snowstorm.
With a limited number of characters, there isn't much of a guessing game so I won't even go into detail with the plot. You can sort-of figure it out by looking at the cast and asking yourself "why on earth would this person want to star in this movie?" I had a problem with the story taking place ON the South Pole and everyone going outside without any facial protection.
I haven't been there; but Missouri winters are wicked enough without scarves or faces being covered and I would think this would be immediate death and/or frostbite. But I'm not a scientist ..
. just a movie fan. I think they forwent the scarves/facial coverings so that the audience would get to see Kate Beckinsale in all of her beautiful-ness. But it did bother me ... This film is passable and it can be watched .
.. not re-watched time and time again. But one time is do-able.
