After watching Kate Beckinsale absolutely kick ass in Total Recall with style and sexiness, she's become an instant celebrity crush and a favourite actress, seeing her take on political thrillers such as Nothing But The Truth and little horrors like Vacancy, her talent is unstoppable and I'll watch anything with her in, I'm excited for her upcoming thriller Eliza Graves.

Whilst I wait for that to be released, it's nice to return to Whiteout, an ice cold thriller filled with cool twists and exciting action scenes set in the blustery weather conditions at an Antarctic research base.

Beckinsale is U.S. marshall Carrie Stetko, who discovers a body on the ice, and soon realises the killer is in her midst, but she hasn't got long to uncover the perpetrator before the whiteout closes in and traps her in Antarctica for six months of darkness.

This is a solid who-dunnit movie with a sense of adventure, but sadly it does lack heart pumping suspense, although there are some near misses for the characters and rather gory moments like finger amputation.

Without a doubt Kate Beckinsale is the star here, her co-stars are great though especially Columbus Short, although Gabriel Macht plays it pretty safe with a rather dull performance. Ignore the shoddy 7% rating, Whiteout is far better than that score, it opens with a bang, follows with mystery and ends with excitement.
