Review of White Zombie (1932) by Rajneel S — 14 Mar 2008
The first ever zombie movie is also , arguably, the greatest film Lugosi has ever appeared in. This highly ambitious, clever and visually stunning low-budget horror film has been a cult classic since its premiere.
Sure it has eye-rolling melodrama, an almost amateurish script and Lugosi sporting the scariest monobrow in history, but the film's outstanding (for its time) use of visuals, atmosphere, film score and authentic flavor of Caribbean voodoo and gothic mood gives this film some real black magic.
An unknown and unappreciated work of ambitious genius.
