Review of White Zombie (1932) by Brent D — 01 Nov 2010
A young couple has come to Haiti to get married. On their way to the place where they will be staying they encounter a strange man (Lugosi) and a horde of the undead. The strange man takes a memento - a scarf - from the woman, but they escape.
The plantation owner is the host to these people and takes a fancy to the lady. Soon an evil plot is concocted where the owner wants the woman at any cost and the strange man can help. The film is typical of the horror films of the early 1930s with good set pieces, the creepy main character and our heroes so virginal, pure and innocent.
Still a decent film with some good moments - the scene with the dead running the sugar mill is quite memorable.
