Review of White Zombie (1932) by Jason ? — 05 Feb 2009
Very progressive for its time. This came out in the same era as Dracula and Frankenstein yet this was a "monster movie" that was not based on a previously written novel.
This talkie includes silent film stars like Madge Bellamy. I would love to have that dress she wore so I could wear it for Halloween.
Critics are in a toss up and say it was either Bela Lugosi's best role or his most laughable. I suppose I'm in between as this is only the third film I've seen with Lugosi.
It's said that the use of music in this film is advanced for its time as well.
In present day I look at the zombies in this movie and they seem really campy to me LOL.
I would say for people to give it a watch. See how far cinema has come.
