Review of White Squall (1996) by Glenn L — 10 Oct 2008
This "Dead Poet's Society at sea" flick floats rather than sinks, largely due to the appealing ensemble cast and the romantic notion of blowing off a year of school to go sailing on the high seas to exotic South American locations.
However, the characters themselves never become as fully rounded as the could be, which means we never quite see the full swing of Scott Wolf's character from the moments when he prepares for his journey to the moment when he rings the bell near the end of the film.
This film is about how a common experience changes the lives of a group of people forever, but the changes in these souls needed to be more dynamically realized.
