Review of White Squall (1996) by Andrew P — 04 Sep 2011
This film takes itself very seriously and strives for earnestness, but never reaches it. Each of the students is a caricature of a character you're already familiar with from hundreds of other films.
Rather than actually showing the relationships forming so the audience gets a sense of the bonding, the film just jumps nothing to points where the boys are already behaving like they are completely bonded, making the whole ordeal feel forced and manufactured.
Overall, this is a fairly forgettable film, a decent distraction but not much more.
