Review of White Oleander (2002) by Sanity Assassin ! — 15 Apr 2009
What is meaning in life? How should we live? What values should we possess, what is good or bad? - How one's life experiences and the people one meets shape their life, their views, their attitude and personality?
These are just some of the questions this drama tries to discuss...
This film is about a girl whose mother goes to jail for murder and thus circles between different foster homes... The girl is strongly influenced by her powerful mother, even from prison... yet while meeting different people on her journey through her teens, she discovers new values and beliefs that shape her personality. Ultimately she realises that she cannot follow her mother's teaching and influence... yet it is her mother's love and care that she's been longing the most...
The characters in this film are extremely realistic. They all have have flaws yet they each possess something positive as well...
Great story doubled with fantastic directing and great acting (superb cast), this meaningful film is an absolute must see!!!
Warning: This film is no light entertainment though! Not recommended to people with poorly trained brain muscles and with no sence of empathy.
