Review of White Noise (2005) by Billy B — 12 Jun 2010

After his wife dies in a horrible accident, Jonathon discovers she is trying to communicate to him through EVP, electronic voice phenomena, and she is giving him clues on where people are in trouble and how he can save them.

Boring. The film was flat from starts to finish, and just sitting through it was enough to make me die of boredom. Out of the entire film, one (maybe two) films were worth watching, but they by a mile didn't make up for the disgrace of the whole. It's one of those films where you either love it or you hate it, it has two levels of watchability, your watching with edge-of-seat thrills, or confused as hell. The viewer was never given a chance to understand what was happening, leaving them confused and lost because there was never a summary of what was happening. The ending was the cherry on top, to me it made the film pointless.

The plot was another entry in the ever growing supernatural sub-genre, and a shitty edition if I may so. Characters were annoying and while we were sympathetic to the lead widower, he was really an irritating piece of work.

The acting was poor. Michael Keaton starred as widower Jonathon, who becomes obsessed with EVP when he is contacted by his wife. He was annoyingly dumb, and a seemingly neglectful father. Deborah Kara Unger and Sarah Strange were just as bad as eachother.

Overall "White Noise" is a confusing and utterly boring waste of time that deserves nothing more than being shut away from the world. My rating is 1/5.
