Review of White Nights (1985) by Johanna M — 11 Aug 2008
I *finally* found this on video and got to watch it. Very good movie. I thought it was mainly about the dancing, but it has a very well-written and very touching story about life under Communist rule and the difficulty in defecting.
The cast is awesome, including Helen Mirren and also Isabella Rossellinni in her first movie role. The dancing is really great--I took both ballet and tap and love the way they are mixed in this movie.
A bit long but otherwise very worthwhile. Too bad Gregory Hines and his wonderful talent are no longer with us.
