Review of White Men Can't Jump (1992) by Eric H — 26 Nov 2011
When I saw ratings for this movie on both, Flixster and IMDb, I was slightly surprised, since the trailer didn't strike me as an outstanding film. Contrary, it seemed like a dull senseless sports movie.
Well, only after watching it I understood the critics reviews. It is indeed a very good film. Due to the prejudgment it is very underestimated. Woody Harrelson does a great job and I couldn't be more satisfied with his performance.
The rest are ok, I mean, you can't expect Wesley Snipes to act amazingly. Besides that, there is much more to this film than just sports. In the matter of fact, it barely has anything to do with the sport itself.
It's about gambling, hussling, clash of personalities and of course racial prejudgments, as the title of the movie states itself. What I do appreciate in movies the most is their uniqueness. This movie does it.
You have never seen and you will never see a movie like this.
