Review of White House Down (2013) by Beth M — 09 Jan 2014

I really enjoyed this one. Lots of action, one-liners and comedic moments. This movie and Olympus Has Fallen both deal with a hostile force invading, overthrowing, and eventually holding POTUS hostage.

The comparison of these two movies much reminds me of Deep Impact and Armageddon, two movies about an a asteroid on a direct collision course with the Earth. While one dealt with the chaos and human aspect of the ending of the world, the other relied on humor, large scale special effects and big name actors to carry the movie.

White House Down and Olympus Has Fallen are exactly like that. The former, much like Armageddon, relies on big name actors, large scale effects and lots of comic relief moments; while the latter, like Deep Impact, is a much more serious character driven commentary on a similar event.
