Review of White House Down (2013) by Matt W — 31 Mar 2014
The second throwaway 'Die Hard' rip-off. This time from the director of 'Independence Day'.
Maybe it will be good... Oh wait, he also made 10,000 BC.
This film is not good, and although I wasn't as bored as I was in 'Olympus Has Fallen', the film never failed to surprise in how overly patriotic a film can be. I don't have a problem with a film being patriotic, but this was just stupid.
'We have the best job in the world' is the introduction to one of the characters who work at the White House, and then we are taken on a tour of the most amazing house on Earth.
There are a few moments that would be spoilers, but I'm sorry it was just too much for me.
Apart from that is the poor script, with exposition and history forced down your throats. They mention what Lincoln did about twelve times.
The acting is fine, but the girl that plays Tatum's daughter definitely bites off more than she could chew.
But she does have a few scenes that may go down in some of the worst moments in films in recent years.
Including a presidential flag. And one line that will have you laughing for years to come.
Entertaining for all the wrong reasons, but that's what you'd expect.
