Of course it is a load of overblown nonsense, but this is Roland Emmerich remember - a man who made 2012. Forget the quality of the acting, the unimagination of the plot, and just sit down to be entertained.
It is never going to be a masterpiece with Emmerich involved, but like The Day After Tomorrow, he does make enjoyable films. All good fun.
