Review of White Heat (1949) by Stephen L — 23 Apr 2008
The best gangster film ever-mainly due to Cagney's role, but also the clever plotting and direction. A psychotic, Oedipal figure, full of demonic energy, destroying himself but intent on taking the world with him.
Which in a sense he does in the final scene, when he says he is on top of the world, (the gas tank) then blows it up. Brilliant!
