Review of White Heat (1949) by Allan C — 15 Nov 2009
I'd of course seen this film before, but it had been quite awhile. I was glad to see that "White Heat" still holds up as the classic it's know as. At this point in his career, Cagney was trying to shed his gangster persona, but after a string of less successful non-gangter films he went back to the genre that made him famous and gave one of his most memorable performances.
Raoul Walsh's direction is typically tight and tough. The script is efficient and does a nice job delving in to the psychology of Cody Jarrett. Simply a great film all around!
