Review of White Girl (2016) by Zachary M — 18 Sep 2016
As a concept this movie could have had a lot going for it. However this movie in addition to being pretty repetitive, had one huge flaw. I couldn't care one bit about our main character. When she's put in awful life altering situations, all I could think was, "yes that's bad, but all the evidence suggested she was a pretty terrible person to begin with.".
Unlike other movies in which a character descends into drug abuse and bleak life obstacles, I lacked a huge amount of sympathy for her based on her action we've seen in the movie as well as her situation as a whole. You barely know this person and yet for some drugs and cheap sex, you will dive head long into a world of drug abuse and pretty much prostitution? No son, no.
I feel like she needed a gay best friend who was outside the situation who could have talked some sense into her before she ends up selling drugs, her own body, and, in a way, her identity. What little there was of it.
